📦 Navigating the New EU ICS2 Import Requirements: What You Need to Know

- 1 min read

Starting 1 September, the European Union is rolling out enhanced regulatory checks under the Import Control System 2 (ICS2). These changes will directly impact how goods are described on international shipments—and non-compliance could lead to delays, rejections, or fines.
🔍 What’s Changing?
EU customs authorities will begin using upgraded systems to review goods descriptions more rigorously. Shipments with vague, incomplete, or generic descriptions may be flagged, rejected, or subject to penalties.
🛠 How We’re Helping You Stay Compliant
To support your compliance efforts, our shipment creation system will introduce a new safeguard starting 23 August. If a goods description is missing or insufficient, you’ll see an alert—and you won’t be able to complete your shipping label until a valid description is provided.
✅ What You Need to Do
While our system helps catch common issues, customs authorities may still flag certain entries. To avoid disruptions, make sure your goods descriptions include:
• Clear and Detailed Information in English, answering:
• What are the goods? – Be specific and descriptive
• What are they made of? – Include materials or components
• What are they used for? – Explain the item’s purpose or function
• Correct HS Code, when available
Need help crafting compliant descriptions? The EU Commission provides examples of acceptable and unacceptable goods descriptions—be sure to review them.
🌍 Does This Apply to You?
Yes. These requirements apply to all shipments entering the EU, and they also extend to every international shipment you send—regardless of destination.
